Director's Bio

Headquarters - Gary, Ind.

Jim Robinson served as a local safety committeeman, grievance committeeman and chairman, arbitration coordinator, and negotiating committee secretary during his more than 20 years at USW Local 1010. He was appointed to the international staff in 1994 and soon rose to the position of Assistant Director of District 7, and was elected Director of District 7 in November of 2001. Robinson spent his off hours in law school, graduating at the top of his class. Utilizing both his knowledge of law and his local union experience, he has successfully negotiated contracts in a wide range of industries including: steel, tire, rubber, aluminum, copper, refractories and chemicals; contracts covering as few as 12 members and as many as 18,000. Not only has he fought to win those contracts, he has worked to enforce them through arbitration and the courts. He serves as Chairman of the Alcoa Aluminum Negotiating Committee and Secretary of the ISG Steel Negotiating Committee.
